ACC Systems' series of SCSI attached communication products, the Series3, enables Sun SPARC workstations and servers to communicate withother devices over HDLC, DDCMP ADCCP, or X.25 links. The Series 3products work as intelligent front-end communication devices containingtheir own CPU, RAM, ROM and SCSI interface. The Series 3 products off-load communications processing from the workstation and supports both astandard IP interface, an X.29 and a Programmable Interface for genericapplication specific communications. In typical applications, the Series3 products allow the workstation to be both a wide area point-to-pointinterface, as well as a router.By attaching to the SCSI bus and installing ACC Systems' SCSITalksoftware, the workstation communicates directly with remote resourceswithout using expensive bridges or routers. Complicated address schemesand delays due to end-to-end message processing are eliminated.Applications such as Telnet, FTP, SMTP and RLOGIN process faster and arepeer-to-peer instead of LAN extension applications.
